Girls go from starving themselves to these crazy diets like only 500 calories a day. Back in the 1800s, woman wore corsets so tight that they actually couldn't breathe! As you may recall, the scene from The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Elizabeth's corset was so tight she fainted and fell into the ocean! Yes, things like that actually did happen. Crazy right? In the 1950s, Marilyn Monroe was always seen as the definition for beauty. However, mothers and housewives were commonly portrayed with having a thinner body. 1960s: The first barbie doll was released with very unrealistic body proportions. And the singer Lesley Hornby was the profound look of fashion and feminine based on her extreme thinness. This was also an example of dieting in this time. In the 19080s the fashioned look was to be more toned. By the 1990s, the look was to have large breasts and being very slim. in 2000, every 1 to 4 girls and every 1 to 10 men were reported having one or more eating disorders |
