Yes, you knew this post was coming sooner or later, hair dying! As damaging as it is, some people see hair coloring as a must. Especially for older woman with graying roots, or someone who has dark roots with bleached hair! Let me first say, hair coloring is very, very damaging to your hair. Honestly, I love when I first get my hair colored, because it feels sleek and so soft. However, don't let this smoothness fool you! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/01/hair-dye-process_n_4181186.html That link has some great information on an example of how damaging hair dying really is. "Kristin LaVerghetta, 23, from Norton, Mass., has hair to die for. It's shiny, it's full, it has just the right amount of bounce, and worse yet, she makes it all look completely effortless. What's her secret when it comes to having great hair, other than good genetics? "I don't color it -- never have," LaVerghetta says. "I blow dry it every day and use a straightener sometimes, and I shampoo and condition every day, which works best for my hair type." To protect her hair against the heat of the blow dryer, she uses hair product first. Her secret to hair success: Less is more. Most of us aren't as kind to our tresses. From highlights to lowlights, chemical perms to chemical straightening, blow drying, braiding, and bleaching, how we treat our hair has a direct impact on how healthy -- or unhealthy -- it looks. Causing split ends, lack of luster, or hair breakage, our styling habits play havoc on the one thing we're trying to capture -- beauty. Hair experts explain the anatomy of the hair on our head, offer insight into the damage too much styling can cause, and give advice on how to keep your locks looking luxurious." That article was from http://www.webmd.com/beauty/hair-repair/8-ways-youre-damaging-your-hair and it is very true. I've dyed my hair many, many times. I've bleached it twice, and even after all my permanent color fading, my hair has a dirty blonde tone to it, even thought it used to be a natural dark brown. Personally, I like the lighter tint to my hair. But, at times it gets frustrating when someone says,"Your hair is such a pretty blonde," even though it's actually supposed to be a dark brown. I'm stuck with a blonde shade until my hair completely regrows out until all the previous colored hair has been trimmed off. However, that will take years! In conclusion, think twice before you decide to color your hair. You'll be tempted to re-dying your hair, especially after roots show or fading. So, the whole process will be very damaging and can take an enormously long time to restart all over. Check with a local salon and see any advice they'd have for you, or maybe help choose a color that would best suit you. |
